They've got attitude baby!!!
So, this is the 8 mile, starring Eminem in his first lead role that everyone is talking about. Actually it's been quite some time that I wanted to criticize the guy, saying: you know what this pal needs? Somebody to take him in front of a mirror and asking him: Ok hon, what color is that guy you see in the mirror? Suprise suprise!! bingo! He is WHITE! or maybe it's just that I don't dig Rap that much and as a result I don't admire Eminem as much as everybody else seems to do so.
I believe that Rap is not music at all. It's mere improvisation and recitaion that is sometimes witty and clever indeed, but still not music. Although there is rhythm and rhyming even more than it is seen in lyrics of Pop or Rock songs, but it never becomes more than lyircs and the music is merely a background that could very well not be there at all as nothing would change in its absence.
Anyways, it was an interesting movie. It seems that I wasn't the only one who wanted to inform this chap about the color of his face and perhaps I was wrong just as they were in the movie. Maybe I'm also a pig-headed, stubborn racist who doesn't want to realize that if blacks are more of racists than we were once, we (we as in whites) are to blame. Of course, for us Iranians living in Iran away from colored minorities it's not a matter of much importance, but I for one have been studying about their history for quite some time, worked on their language and culture a bit so I may have a couple of ideas about what they're about.
It's a path all humanity walks through. Regarding our behavior towards Afghanis in Iran if there were to be black people here too the same attitude would've awaited them. Generally we are a, euphemistically expressed, patriotic nation and our claims go high up to the sky. For instance, although I know it's a problematic thing to say I can't help but say that Iranians are the most intelligent and then justify it by referring to all the Iranian professionals, scientists, and geniuses all over the world. I boast on our students' continuous success in international competitions, people like our very own Ali Asgari who holds a gold medal in Maths and not only that but also writes so that reminds me of a great writer like Sadeq Hedayat.
All in all, deep inside we think of ourselves as the superior Arians and I think most nations have such notions about themselves. Now for different reasons the AFRICAN AMERICANS, as they call themselves now, have had it really tough until they stood up for their rights and got them alright. Now it's their turn to say white trash in return for nigger! They've turned into this racist community with their exclusive streets, bands, clubs and discos; places where there are no white people seen except maybe the trashy ones. Their own singers, music and language, and most importantly they've got attitude baby!!
Now this is where a semi-racist such as myself jumps in to say: see, I told you so! They didn't deserve this freedom and belong where they were before, pay too much attention to them and this is what happens! But then I remember the book, The Roots and go silent. The scenes of the movie American History X waltz in front of my eyes and I shut myself up. Both sides have made mistakes, have gone astray and most probably will continue doing so, that's the way it's always been with human beings and that's the way it's gonna be, I guess; messing with each other for the most ridiculous reasons.
The movie is worth watching at least one time and for a person like me it was good to find out more about a person I did not understand very well before and did not judge so fairly. I may not like Rap any more than I did before the movie but at least now I won't be barking what's that white boy doing amid all these blacks? Why is he trying so hard to play it cool by hanging out with these guys?
Oh, mmmm by the way, this Eminem guy has a cute face, doesnt' he? :D
